When Do You Know It’s Time to Hire a Professional Organizer?

So you’ve dabbled with the idea of hiring a professional organizer. Or maybe you’re not sure if you’re qualified for one?

Well the good news is, there is no minimum standard for hiring a professional organizer, you can be organized and simply want your space reimagined to better suit your life. However, there are tell-tale signs that it’s time you consider receiving help from a professional organizer. We believe anyone is capable of organizing their space on their own, but as with any other service, sometimes it’s worth it to get the extra help!

Check out these lifestyle symptoms to see if you could benefit from some professional organizer TLC:

1. You get really overwhelmed over the process

*SCENE* So you know you want to get * it * together* .You’re sick of how things look around you and decided it’s time you do something about it. So you find yourself a couple of hours in and things look even worse than when you started. You’re already tired and the thought of continuing makes you cringe so you give up altogether. *END SCENE*

Fear not, this is a very common scenario. Take it from us, we’ve heard and seen it all. It goes without saying, no matter your situation you will need endurance to finish the task alone.

Professional organizers work with you to get the job done as quickly as possible. Instead of you wondering about the next step, we alleviate the stress by guiding you through it without interruption. This saves a lot of time, hassle, and doubts about your progress. Your energy is reserved for the more important decisions in the process.

Our shortest jobs can still take 5 hours and not everyone has that kind of time. Which brings us to our next point…

2. No time for it all

We get it, you’re busy! Between juggling your errands and responsibilities it can be hard to figure out where you will find the time to fully organize on your own.

Even with the greatest intentions to reorganize your space, you simply don’t have all the hours to do it on your own. We can help with that. Sometimes we come in teams and knock out multiple projects at once. You just have to worry about answering some of our initial questions so we make sure your solutions are a good fit for your needs.

Some clients are with us throughout the entire process but for our especially busy clients, after some initial getting to know one another, they’re perfectly comfortable heading out to get other tasks done while we figure out the rest.

3. Transitional periods in your life

These periods can be heavy. They can be :

  • Exciting - a baby on the way, moving in with a partner

  • Extremely stressful- moving in general!

  • And even sad- a period amid navigating grief.

We can’t speak on behalf of all professional organizers however LYS cares about your well-being at the fore-front of what we do. It’s why we do what we do.

When we are called to help someone during transitional periods, we’re keen on all the stress they might already be enduring. It’s hard enough to navigate major changes in your life, we come to assist the process and try to alleviate the worries of getting your physical space together. Having a team on your side can certainly do wonders.

4. You can’t find anything

This one might be self-explanatory but it can still serve as a reminder you shouldn’t spend half your morning looking for things. If you’re constantly wondering where something is because it’s not where it should be, or there is no place where it should be- this is a sign.

Our time is already scarce- there is no need for wasting it on looking for things when we can create systems to avoid this. We’ll work to address this specific issue if it’s causing you more stress than you already endure in a given day.

5. You avoid being home or in certain rooms

Yes, seriously! Sometimes your space can get so unbearable, it’s a lot easier to side-eye the entire thing and avoid it at all costs. You can also convince yourself that organizing is not a top priority if you’re rarely in your home/that room you’re avoiding. If you find yourself in this situation, it might be best to let professionals handle it.

6. You’ve organized but you can’t seem to keep it that way

Maybe you’ve gone through the entire process of tidying up but as good as things look, they might revert back to how they were.

This is a common case of great intentions but most likely, poor systems. Just like us, we didn’t know there were various ways to organize the same rooms and items when we first started. And so you might be doing things the only way you know how without realizing there are better ways!

Our expertise in the niche helps us design a system that works better for you. We will guide you through the staples of the entire process and explain why we are doing it in that manner. It can be an immersive learning experience if you need it to be. Our end goal is to make our clients self-sustaining however we can still be the best friends you call when you need the extra help.

If any of these (or all) are resonating with you, reach out to consult with a professional organizer. Some organizers (like us) have free consulting calls just so you understand what you might get yourself into before fully committing.

Of course, we are biased toward the Swoon Spaces team, however, we truly believe having an organized space is a moving part of self-care and can make your life more enjoyable.

If you need the help organizing, reach out to a professional organizer and watch your life and space transform.
