Streamline Your Spring with these 5 Organizing Tips
Spring is here and we’re so ready for the longer days and warmer weather!
It’s a great time to take stock of your life and, if needed, freshen things up! From seasonal wardrobe swaps to spring cleaning, there are so many opportunities to refresh your life this time of year!
If you’re looking for a place to start or some inspiration to get going, we have 5 zones in your home that you can upgrade to streamline your life this spring!
1. Create a COMMAND CENTER in your kitchen
If you don’t already have one, a command center for your family is a fantastic way to get everyone on the same page! From a space to store incoming and outgoing documents for school for the kids to a color-coded family calendar or chore chart, this can be your go-to space for all things household operations and family logistics! Consolidate your schedules and important information to keep things running smoothly! If you live in a smaller space (like an NYC apartment), a portion of your kitchen counter is the best bet for this zone since everyone visits and uses the kitchen daily. If you have a larger home, you can have an entire area just outside your kitchen designated for this.
2. Set up a DROP ZONE in your entryway
Whether you have a designated mudroom or a simple shelf near your front door, setting up a space to place your keys, wallet, sunglasses, and any other daily necessities when you return home can help you keep track of those important items. It can be as simple as placing a basket on a table to hold your items while not in use running errands!
3. Simplify your SUPPLY CLOSET
No matter how big or small your cleaning/household/utility storage space may be, keep it ORGANIZED. Spring is a great time to refresh these spaces and make sure you’re stocked up and that everything is accessible. Utilize BINS and LABELS to keep this area functional for the whole family.
4. Have a plan for your BACKSTOCK items
If you’re lucky enough to have the real estate to buy in bulk, make sure you have a game plan for those surplus items! If you have space high up in your pantry or a separate area in a basement or a garage, make sure you have a system for those items and restocking when needed! If You have a large home with multiple levels, consider having a designated zone on each floor for some backstock items to minimize trips up and downstairs. Your legs will thank you ;)
5. Utilize CUBBY SYSTEMS to stay neat and tidy
A great solution to keeping your entryway or mudroom under control is a CUBBY SYSTEM. Especially if you have little ones in your life, a cubby system can help keep your spaces streamlined and calm. With this system, each member of the family has their own space for shoes, backpacks, and seasonal accessories. Stop your stuff from piling up on the floor this spring, once and for all!
BONUS ZONE: THE STAIRCASE
If you find yourself leaving piles at the bottom or top of the stairs to avoid multiple trips up and down throughout the day, we have a simple solution! Create a drop zone at the top and/or bottom of your staircase to contain any items you may need to transport to a new space. When the bin is full (or on your next organic trip to a different floor), bring the basket and rehome those items. This way, you can minimize those trips AND the clutter crowding your staircase!
The changing seasons are an especially good motivator when it comes to fresh starts - especially spring! So we hope these tips inspire you to kickstart the spring season with renewed energy. The trifecta of a seasonal swap, some spring cleaning, and these tips to streamline your life will help transform your spring into one of productivity, harmony, clarity, and excitement!
